Please continue to pray for our new home

Please pray that we will find a suitable location for our new home!

Our Lady of Sorrows convent in Broken Arrow, which we had hoped to obtain for our new parish church and school, turned out not to be financially viable so we are looking at other options. There seems to be much interest in the convent photos from various locations around the country, so I will leave the links here for now:    [Exterior] [Interior]

Web Site News

I am in the process of changing the layout and formatting of the web site. This may take several weeks to complete. If you have any comments or suggestions or if you notice any errors, please send me an email by clicking on the "Contact" link at the bottom or top of the page. I am especially interested in knowing of formatting problems that appear in browsers other than Firefox 3.5 or Internet Explorer 7.

Several changes that have been made already:

  • The altar server list has been added
  • The weekly liturgical calendar has been removed from the home page. There are links to the liturgical calendar on catholocity.net (which was the source of the calendar I used here) on the navigation bar and in the Mass Schedule section.
  • The links have been organized.
  • Only a portion of the long prayers is displayed on this page. There are links to the full text of each prayer.
  • I have started cleaning up the rather messy HTML code that was generated by Microsoft FrontPage when I first created the web site.

Solemn vespers will be prayed at Holy Family Cathedral at 6:30 PM on the last Sunday of each month.  The next vespers will be Sunday January 29, 2012.

Vespers is part of the official daily prayer of the Church and recalls Sunday morning's Eucharistic sacrifice. With psalms, readings, and prayers taken from Scriptures, solemn Vespers are sung in the context of Eucharistic Adoration by the diocesan schola Vox Nova. Benediction closes the service. Our Lady of the Annunciation Abbey (Clear Creek)

Clear Creek Work Day 2012

The annual Clear Creek Abbey work day will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012, beginning with breakfast at 7:30 AM and continuing until 5 PM. Lunch will be served.

For those unfamiliar with the work day, it is the one day each year when the supporters of Clear Creek Abbey descend onto the property to help the monks with the upkeep of their farm, property and shops. With the rigors of contemplative life the monks are not able to complete many tasks needed to maintain the property.  The community builds fences, burns brush, plants trees, paints, among other projects.

Both work guides and workers are needed, especially those with skills in fence building or maintenance or bulldozer/backhoe/BobCat operation.

Those who wish to volunteer as work guides should send an email to Erik Grayless (egrayless@gmail.com) as soon as possible. For more information or to register as a worker, please visit www.abbeyworkday.com.

Clear Creek Elevated to Status of Abbey

The priory of Clear Creek Monastery was elevate to the status of self-governing Abbey on February 11, 2010, the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. The prior, Fr. Phillip Anderson, was named the Abbot or Our Lady of the Annunciation of Clear Creek Abbey. The change in status is an indication of the stability of the community as evidenced by its ability to attract vocations and its financial stability.

U.S. Health Care Reform Legislation

Updated 3/13/2010

USCCB Bulletin Insert for 14 March 2010
USCCB Health Care Reform web site
Interview with Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI)

Abortion is NOT Health Care

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and all the instruments of His Holy Passion, that Thou mayest put division in the camp of Thine enemies, for as Thy beloved Son hath said, "a kingdom divided against itself shall fail."

Pope Pius XII on the importance of making a proper thanksgiving after receiving Holy Communion:

[S]hould we not approve of those who, when they receive holy communion, remain on in closest familiarity with their divine Redeemer even after the congregation has been officially dismissed, and that not only for the consolation of conversing with Him, but also to render Him due thanks and praise and especially to ask help to defend their souls against anything that may lessen the efficacy of the sacrament and to do everything in their power to cooperate with the action of Christ who is so intimately present?

We exhort them to do so in a special manner by carrying out their resolutions, by exercising the Christian virtues, as also by applying to their own necessities the riches they have received with royal Liberality.  The author of that golden book The Imitation of Christ certainly speaks in accordance with the letter and the spirit of the liturgy when he gives the following advice to the person who approaches the altar, "Remain on in secret and take delight in your God; foe He is yours whom the whole world cannot take away from you."

Prayer for Pope Benedict

"Pray for me, that I may not flee for fear of the wolves. " [Pope Benedict XVI, 24 April, 2005]

The Holy Father has come under personal attack on many fronts recently as a result of child abuse allegations in his archdiocese in Germany while he was the archbishop. Many press reports insinuate these incidents involve him personally. Please pray for Pope Benedict and for those who are attempting to undermine his authority and reputation, as well as those of the Church. Also pray for all others involved in these incidents, most especially the children.

V. Let us pray for our Pontiff, Pope Benedict.
R. May the Lord preserve him, and give him life, and bless him upon earth, and deliver him not to the will of his enemies.

Our Father. Hail Mary.

Let us pray.

O God, Shepherd and Ruler of all Thy faithful people, look mercifully upon Thy servant Benedict, whom Thou hast chosen as shepherd to preside over Thy Church. Grant him, we beseech Thee, that by his word and example, he may edify those over whom he hath charge, so that together with the flock committed to him, may he attain everlasting life. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for Government

We pray, Thee O Almighty and Eternal God! Who through Jesus Christ hast revealed Thy glory to all nations, to preserve the works of Thy mercy, that Thy Church, being spread through the whole world, may continue with unchanging faith in the confession of Thy Name.

Prayer After Mass (St. Thomas Aquinas)

I give thanks to Thee, holy Lord, Father almighty, eternal God, Who hast deigned, through no merit of mine, but through Thy mercy alone, to satisfy me, a sinner, Thine unworthy servant, with the precious Body and Blood of Thy Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

I pray that this Holy Communion may not be to me a cause of punishment, but a saving surety for forgiveness. May it be to me the armor of faith and the shield of good will. May it be the emptying of my vices and the extermination of covetousness and passion; an increase of charity and patience, of humility and obedience, and of all the virtues.

May it be a firm defense against the snares of all enemies, visible and invisible; a perfect quieting of my emotions, both fleshly and spiritual; a firm adherence to Thee, the one true God; and a happy completion of the end of my life.

I pray Thee, that Thou wouldst deign to lead me, a sinner, to that ineffable banquet, where Thou, together with Thy Son and the Holy Ghost, art to Thy saints true and unfailing light, fullness of contentment, everlasting joy, complete gladness, and perfect happiness.

Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen
